Losse Kills(an excerpt from "Elfhome Chronicles Losse and Cyrus")
Losse walked into the castle looking for Cyrus. She found him sitting in the living room on the day bed. The obviously pregnant female approached him, knelt next to his knee, and spoke in her lilting, near whisper, "I've a secret to tell." Cyrus put his book down and turned to her with a smile, "Yes Mela?" Looking up at him in all seriousness she said exactly what was on her mind, "Yes. I killed recently. I'm afraid it will taint the pregnancy." His expression dropped, and he couldn't seem to get words to come out. "I did it to protect our daughter and myself." Her gaze dropping to her hands. Her beloved husband slipped out of the chair to his knees, faced her and took her hands, looked into her eyes with a worried frown creasing his brow. "What happened?" He whispered. Stealing herself for the ordeal of reliving the event as she told it to him, she began, "I was wandering by the cliffs where we met... there was a sound, close by. I sang myself invisible to sight as long as I remained still. An orgre-ish looking creature started sniffing about the tree we sat under that day." The words tumbled from her once she got started. Cyrus looked into her eyes more intently, caught up in the story. A tiny thrill of fear ran through her as she continued." It turned and faced me. Looking right at me. I don't know how, but it saw me. I had not moved a muscle. With no warning, it charged me. I had little choice, my magic is limited until the baby is born, so, I killed it." He swallowed hard and searched her face then brought her to him in a tight embrace, tears filling his eyes. words beyond his abbilities at the moment. She hugged him tightly, her body shaking with delayed reaction to her ordeal. Killing is always a last resort for her. Cyrus just held her close for a long time. When he eventually pulled from her and wiped his tears away, he caressed her face. The knowledge that he might not have been able to do this at that moment, nearly stopping his heart. "You did what was needed Mela." Her response was a murmur, "Yes," Though she was not happy about it. Quick to change the subject, now that she'd spoken about it. " I need to do a cleansing. that is why I came to you now." He nodded slowly as he stood, helping her to her feet. Once she was standing again, she addressed the peculiar problem they now faced. "I'll have to forego the fasting for our tinu's sake." Cyrus's brow smoothed as he had an idea "May i partake in your place? " Feeling much better about it she readilly agreed. "I'd like it if you'd do the ceremony with me." A smile playing on his lips, he nodded. "You will fast today, then tmorrow at moonrise we begin." He smiled again, "Till then we must rest.' Losse smiled at him for the first time since she approached him "Yes, among other things." Cyrus pulled her into an embrace and kissed her softly. She kissed him back lightly, stepped back from the embrace turned and lead him to their bedchamber.
